I know we are hours into this process already but there are more places you can go to where you might be able to find coupons. Search online for the brand (example: Folgers) and go to their main website. Most (if not all) of the brands have places for you to sign up to receive coupons online through your email or they let you download them immediately.
Note: Did you know that most libraries have a FREE coupon box you can go through! Take the coupons you aren’t using and swap them out. Remember, always give to receive!!
We’re coming up on the home stretch here so stick with it. Let’s go back to the store(s) website. Do they have any programs which offer additional coupons or savings? For instance, one of my favorite stores to coupon at is Target. They have the Target Cartwheel program (free coupons on your phone) and they offer a Target DEBIT card (hooked right up to your bank account – this is NOT their Credit Card, although it offers the same benefits) which saves you 5% off every purchase!
Now here is where the big savings come in. You can STACK your coupons. So, for example, let’s say Target has Purina Cat Chow on sale for $5.99 a bag. You found a coupon in the Sunday paper for $3.00 off any size Purina Cat Food (I see this at least once a month). Now we’re down to $2.99 a bag. Target Cartwheel is offering 25% off all Purina Cat Food AND they have a Target coupon out there for $1.00 off any Purina Cat Food. And then you use your Target Debit Card to save another 5%. That bag of Purina Cat Food will now cost you $.47!!! Sometimes they even have additional offers where if you buy $20 worth of Purina Foods (and they count the sale price, NOT the price you paid) you receive a $5 gift card – it really is amazing how much you can save if you make yourself aware of what is available.
Is your mind blown yet? Hang in there. We need to talk about Ibotta. So, pull out your cell phone and go to your App Store and download the Ibotta App. Create an account and be prepared to save. Yes, they have a ton of stores on there with even more savings. Now, these aren’t instant savings so think of them more as rebates but ones you do not need to wait 6 weeks for. Most of them appear in your account within a few hours and once you reach a certain amount you can transfer it right to your Paypal account.
Each store is different but most of them require you to scan the item and the receipt to receive the rebate. Does it take time – yes. Is it worth it to save another $5.00 off that case of beer you just bought? Heck yes! Oh, and if you get your friends to join Ibotta you create a TEAM where you ALL save even more money. It’s crazy fun 🙂
Here are additional stores in my area which offer great savings programs:
Now, it’s time to go shopping. Once you get in the store it may seem overwhelming at first but breathe and take it one aisle at a time. If you take your kids and their old enough to wander on their own, ask them to do a scavenger hunt and try to find some of the items by using the picture on the coupons. My son loves to do this!
Once you have everything you came for – and try not to deviate from your coupon list – it’s time to go to the register. I know this is going to be hard to do but listen to me….DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE PERSON BEHIND YOU. Don’t stress about how long it’s taking for the cashier to scan your coupons. If the person behind you is rude enough to make a comment – and believe me I hear it all the time – just ignore them. YOU are saving money. They don’t pay for the things your family needs – YOU do. And you have just as much of a right to shop in that store and check out and use coupons as they do. Lately, I hear more good things than bad. One lady behind me in Target said, “You really know how to make those coupons work for you!” And then she proceeded to pull out her own stack and we had a good laugh.
The most important thing is to have fun with this. I look at coupons as money – they are paper just like money and they have a value just like money. Why in the world would you throw money in the trash can? You wouldn’t. So use those coupons and share the ones you don’t! You can always email me if you have any questions!! firstname.lastname@example.org
