We created a family command center a couple of years ago and loved having a place where our family could connect. We had a calendar, cork board, photos, an “A” to signify our last name and a place for folders. I noticed last month that we had stopped updating everything about two months ago. I took a closer look and everything was really just a hot mess. Here is a picture of it:
Pictures had fallen off, Christmas posters were still up, papers were carelessly tossed into the files, we were missing a pencil bin….I really hated the wall at this point…but we were in the middle of updating Gavin’s bedroom and I didn’t want to pull my energies away from that project to start a new one. Patiently, I waited. I would sketch new ideas here and there. Browse in a store or online for ideas. And finally, this weekend, we had time to change it up!
I knew I wanted a less busy look and I wanted a place for Gavin’s new Chore Chart. This meant a bigger cork board was needed for sure. I hated the black picture frames from the Dollar Store – they were good in the beginning but now I felt they had no real purpose especially since we were obviously not taking the time to change them out. The calendar was too bright white for the wall and I knew I wanted a new one. I still loved the wire file holder and the pencil bar (aka. a utensil holder from Ikea lol) but I did not love the buckets. Here is our After picture of our new command center:
Isn’t it lovely?? I literally smile every time I look at it. Here is a list of the new items and where I found them:
- 2 8×10 Picture Frames – AC Moore
- Cork Board – Hobby Lobby
- “You Make Me Happy…” Picture Frame – AC Moore
- Chalkboard – Michaels (I drew the calendar on myself with White Chalk Paint)
- Metal Bins – Michaels
- White 2 Pocket Folders – Amazon
Everything else we had somewhere in our house! I may do a little tweaking here and there but for now, it’s my favorite project yet.
